GD&T
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Universal Language
GD&T uses symbols and shapes to tell us
what the designer wants. The symbols have the same meaning everywhere. Therefore, it is a universal
language.
GD&T = Lower Cost
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing properly applied can
reduce production
costs and speedup inspections. Reducing the number of vague notes on a print makes it easier and quicker to
read.
GD&T allows the maximum tolerance for many features of
product. This reduces the potential for scrap and that lowers the cost of production.
Datums
Datums tell us where dimensions and tolerances
originate. There should be no guessing as to where to begin measuring a feature on a part. Datums provide the
reference for setup and inspection.
Datums are one of the most important features of GD&T. They
provide you with a method of location and position that is simply not available with convential
dimensioning.
Bonus
Tolerance
Two material
conditions apply to certain types of features that allow production bonus tolerances. These material conditions are
maximum material condition and least material condition. The bonus tolerance doesn’t affect the dimensional
tolerances. It applies to the size of the tolerance zone only.
This bonus can provide easier setups and
less scrap. These bonus tolerance is available only from using GD&T for certain type of product
features.
Enroll in one of our seminars or have an
in-plant class and learn how tolerances can be increased and retain fit, form and function.
What Features
Can Have GD&T Tolerances?
Features of form, location and
orientation can have GD&T tolerances. Features such as thickness cannot.
Learn what features can have GD&T tolerances. Learn the
rules and applications for datums. Discover what features need datums and how many datums.
You can have this class presented at your business for as
little a $53.00 per person. Travel expenses not included.
Class is one day.
