Five (5) S

Organized = $$$

Workplaces that are organized and stable are more productive. There is no time wasted looking for materials, tools and product. I hate it when I spend more time looking for the right tool to do the job than it takes to do the job. Any time spent searching for tools, parts, and materials is waste regardless of how long the job takes.

Simplify

Get rid of things that are not used or usable. Put into long-term storage things you need but are not used on a regular basis (daily or weekly).

Straighten

Organize the things you have left after you have simplified. As the saying goes “A place for everything and everything in its place”.

Scrub

Clean everything that is in your area. Including tools, equipment, workbenches, cabinets, shelves, floors, walls, everything. Paint it if it needs it.

Stabilize

Setup your work area so everything is easy to find and use. Label areas showing what goes where.

Sustain

Make cleaning and organizing a habit.
