Auditing to
ISO 14001 is not the same as auditing to ISO 9001 or the other
quality standards. ISO 14001 auditors need the same basic
auditor skills and they need a thorough understanding of
Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
EMS v QMS
QMS audits
concern themselves with the company’s customers. The customers
can be external and/or internal. The primary focus is on the
paying customer.
EMS audit
concerns are interested parties and prevention of pollution.
Interested parties can be literally anyone that shows interest
and/or concern in a company’s environmental policies and
procedures.
Aspects and impacts
You will
learn to identify environmental aspects and impacts. You will
get an understanding of auditing significant aspects, impacts
and determining if the EMS is adequate to handle them.
Continual Improvement
ISO 14001
requires a company to continually improve their EMS. You will
learn the difference between EMS and QMS continual improvement.
