ISO 9001 Revisions

REVISIONS TO ISO 9001:2008 ON THE WAY!

A revised version of the standard is in the works and will be published next year. We should not expect major changes. The revision specification states "any changes to ISO 9001:2008 for the next release of the standard in 2008 be relatively minor in nature with minimal impact and high benefit to the end user."

I'll let you know as soon as more detailed information about the revision is released by TC 176.

REVISIONS TO ISO/TS 16949?

The ISO 9001 standard was to be revised a few years back. That revision was postponed principally to coordinate with the expiration of the auto industry standard ISO/TS 16949:2002. At this point, I do not have any updates on the TS revisions. Again, I'll let you know as soon as I get any updates.

There has been a rumor floating around that one of the changes in the 2008 revision will be the elimination of the internal audit requirement. Like most rumors there is no truth to it. This issue was asked and answered before the 2000 revision was released. Internal audits will continue to be emphasized. Their importance as a benchmark for top management remains a critical requirement.
