Global 8D
Systemic Problem Solving

Global and not local

Global 8D is similar to the standard 8D method used for product and process
defects. However, Global 8D works at the Quality Management System (QMS) level.

Data shows that 75% to 80% of recurring problems stem from the QMS level. Root cause analysis and problem solving at the process level won’t fix the chronic system level problem.

Beyond the immediate problem

The Global 8D method looks beyond the immediate cause and process to assess why problems work their way into our operations. This should be a "must learn" technique for those companies experiencing recurring customer complaints and returns.

Time required

Global 8D requires more time to complete than the standard 8D or the 5 Why methods. Systemic root causes lay at a higher level of the system than the operation or process root causes, therefore, allow additional time for investigation of the problem.

QMS Standards

This method complies with the corrective action requirements of ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, AS 9100 and other quality standards.
